At the end of last year, I visited Inuyama again, this time with a friend from Indonesia who was doing a six-month sandwich program at Gifu University. It wasn’t my first time here, I had been to Inuyama the year before, but every visit feels special. I love its quiet, serene streets, the stillness in the air, and how rich the town is in culture and history.
We
started our walk at Inuyama Shrine, where the winter atmosphere made everything
feel calm and reflective. Passing through the torii gate, we paused to express
gratitude for the year behind us and hope for the one ahead. From there, we
headed to Inuyama Castle, one of Japan’s oldest original castles. Standing at
the top, looking over the calm flow of the Kiso River, the crisp winter wind
reminded me of how small yet meaningful each step in life can be.
During our stroll, I also treated myself to Tanghuru (タンフールー) in Japanese, but it's also known by descriptive names like Fruit Candy or Caramel Strawberry, it was sweet, festive, and perfect for the season.
Visiting
Inuyama again reminded me that closing a year doesn’t have to be loud or
crowded. Sometimes, walking in a quiet town, soaking in its culture, and
sharing simple moments with a friend is the best way to reflect, relax, and
step into a new year.
You must have had a wonderful end of the year!
返信削除I went to Inuyama Castle a few years ago, and as it is the castle with the oldest surviving castle tower in Japan, I remember it being quite difficult to climb the steep stairs inside. The view from the top floor was all the more beautiful because it was such a struggle. It's also fun to walk around the town of Inuyama Castle and try different foods. Tanghuru has been popular for a while now, and I've been curious about it. Your post has really made me want to try it 😊.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
削除Yes, it really was a wonderful way to end the year.
I completely agree—the stairs inside Inuyama Castle are surprisingly steep, but that challenge makes the view from the top feel even more rewarding. Walking around the castle town is also one of my favorite parts, especially with so many unique local foods to try.
Tanghulu has indeed become very popular, and it was fun to finally try it there. I’m happy to hear that my post made you interested in it!
This sounds like such a peaceful and meaningful visit. My friend lives there and has been inviting me for a long time. After reading this, I feel like I’d really enjoy visiting the castle too.
